When Miriam Lapp left the Amish community of Bird-in-Hand three years ago, she put the past behind her. But when her sister calls with news that their mother has died suddenly, Miriam swallows her pride one last time and travels back to Pennsylvania.

Miriam’s resolve to stay aloof from the Amish community falters when she learns that the rumors that broke up her engagement with Timothy Kauffman years ago were lies. Could it be that she threw away a chance at life and love, all for nothing? If Timothy weren’t already engaged to marry another woman, maybe they could rekindle their love, but Miriam realizes the past is past. She would never do to Timothy’s f iancée what was done to her. She returns to Indiana hurting, but knowing she did the right thing.

When Miri am’s family calls on her for help, she once again steps up to the task, knowing her sacrif ice will yield her no personal gain. But it turns out that peace often surpasses our understanding, and love finds us in the most unlikely of circumstances.
