Advanced Sanitation : Selected Papers from the International Conference on Advanced Sanitation, Held at Aachen, Germany, 12-13 March 2007

Since water, sanitation and health go hand in hand, sanitation is a future-oriented topic. The demand for advanced and sustainable sanitation systems will increase due to many reasons, including the rapid growth in the world's urban population and increasing water scarcity in many regions of the world. Thus new technologies and systems have to be developed to respond to the challenges in the field of sanitation that we face today and in the future. Following a full peer review 30 papers have been selected for this issue. Topics covered include: advanced wastewater treatment; hygiene and disinfection; source separation, nutrient recovery, wastewater reuse and greywater treatment; ecological and sustainable sanitation concepts and case studies for rural and urban areas including social aspects; decision support systems (decentralised and centralised systems), and economics.
