This book presents the microscopic bark anatomy and morphology of more than 180 different tree and shrub species from Europe, Asia and North America. It is the first compendium to demonstrate the anatomical variability in bark for almost 70 years (Holdheide 1951). Using high-quality microphotographs, the introductory chapter explains the anatomical traits most important for the identification and ecological interpretation of barks. The main part then describes specific patterns and includes low and high-magnification image, based on double-stained slides, reveal the quality and distribution of unlignified and lignified tissues. For each species, it also features an illustration of the whole plant, and a photograph of the bark in a young and old stage.
The book fills a scientific gap: It is a valuable resource for archeologists and soil scientists wanting to identify prehistoric and historical remnants and ecophysiologists interested in the distribution of conducting and non-conducting tissues in the phloem and xylem along the stem axis and the internal longevity of cells. Further, it provides ecologists with insights into internal defense mechanisms and enables technologists to recognize indicators relevant in biophysics and technology.Get Bark Anatomy of Trees and Shrubs in the Temperate Northern Hemisphere by at the best price and quality guaranteed only at Werezi Africa's largest book ecommerce store.
