These photographs illustrate a time when Bootle had its own police force, fire brigade and trams, and a time when the docks were in their heyday and great liners graced the quaysides. The photographs have been drawn mainly from the author’s own extensive collection of picture postcards but he has also borrowed from family albums of local people to give a wide scope to the material that makes up this unique sequence of largely unpublished images.
