Challenging Cases in Immunotherapy Related Organ Toxicities

With the widespread use of checkpoint inhibitors as the standard of care for many different cancers, their associated toxicities in many organ systems significantly limit their use in select populations. Certain organ toxicities can be severe and life threatening. It is crucial to recognize these disease entities early on and provide prompt and effective treatments to improve the quality of patient care while also enabling the continuation of cancer therapy long term.  

Meant as a companion title to Managing Immunotherapy Related Organ Toxicities, this new book focuses on examples of challenging cases with toxicities presented in over ten different organ systems. Each case discussion includes a clinical presentation, evaluation, treatment and long-term outcome of the patients presented. The contributors are groups of experts offering routine clinical care to patients with most complex and refractory toxicity conditions. There are twelve chapters total, the majority of which are organized alphabetically by organ. The ten case studies presented include toxicities of the endocrine system, the gastrointestinal system, the heart, the kidney, the liver, the lung, the muscular-skeletal system, the neurological system, the pancreas and the skin. The last two chapters focus on emergency toxicity and inpatient toxicity.
