The Chapter books by Rita Ackermann and Andro Wekua unfold as an intimate, ongoing exchange – part correspondence, part visual diary. Through drawings, collages, and fragments of text, the artists build a shared language shaped by memory, distance, and fleeting impressions. Their imagery drifts between figuration and abstraction, layering moments that feel both personal and elusive. Rather than resolving into fixed narratives, the works accumulate and dissolve, creating a restless, poetic atmosphere where meaning remains open, shifting, and deeply evocative.Rita Ackermann (1968, Hungary) studied at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts before moving to New York in the early 1990s. She first gained attention in the mid-1990s with works depicting stylized, often androgynous female figures that drew on youth culture, fashion, and illustration. Over time, her practice shifted toward a more process-driven approach, combining painting, drawing, and collage on large canvases. Her works are held in major collections including the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art, and she has exhibited widely in the United States, Asia and Europe.Andro Wekua (1977, Georgia) left his hometown during the conflict in Abkhazia and later moved to Switzerland, where he studied at the Basel School of Design. He works across painting, sculpture, film, and installation, often incorporating architectural models, mannequins, and cinematic elements. Wekua has represented Switzerland at the Venice Biennale and has had solo exhibitions at institutions such as the Kunsthalle Basel and Museo Tamayo. His work frequently references specific places and constructed environments, reflecting an interest in memory, displacement, and staged reality.
