Twenty three years ago, while undergoing treatment at a Young Persons' Mental Health Institute, Joel Sampson witnessed-and survived-a massacre. The trauma reshaped him, yet he eventually built a steady life as a schoolteacher and devoted father. But when his former therapist is discovered murdered in the same grotesque manner as the original massacre's victims, Joel is pulled back to his hometown of Tayborough to confront his demons.

As more bodies start piling up, suspicions turn toward Joel himself. His own long buried memories remain fractured and unreliable, and even he starts to fear what he might be capable of. Desperate for answers, he launches his own investigation into the events and surrounding deaths.

The deeper he digs, the more he becomes convinced that something supernatural is connecting the past to the present. Even worse comes the realization that someone may be deliberately manipulating the dark forces that have shadowed his life. As suspicions grow, Joel must come face to face with his own demons if he's to save himself and everyone he cares for.
