The seven chorale fantasias by Max Reger are among the most important of organ repertoire - masterpieces blending chorale melody and programmatic music based on the text of the chorales.

Published on the occasion of the composer's 150th birthday, this fundamentally revised Urtext edition, in two volumes, is edited by the internationally renowned organist and Leipzig professor of organ Martin Schmeding.

As one of the most influential Reger interpreters, Schmeding not only includes the latest research, but also addresses the need for a contemporary interpretation of the chorale fantasias on modern organs. The edition includes all the original dynamic and agogic indications (including continuation lines to cresc., etc., which are missing in many modern editions), as well as all the original registration and manual indications.

Pünktlich zum 150. Geburtstag des Komponisten legt Edition Peters eine neue, grundlegend überarbeitete Urtext-Ausgabe dieses bedeutenden Orgelrepertoires in zwei Bänden vor, herausgegeben von dem international renommierten Organisten und Leipziger Professor für Orgel Martin Schmeding.

Als einer der einflussreichsten Reger-Interpreten berücksichtigt Schmeding nicht nur den aktuellen Stand der Forschung, sondern auch die Bedürfnisse an eine zeitgemäße Interpretation der Choralfantasien auf heute verfügbaren Instrumenten. Während in der früheren Peters-Ausgabe von 1977 die aufführungspraktischen Angaben an die Klangästhetik und die technischen Beschränkungen der in den 1970er Jahren verfügbaren Instrumente angepasst worden waren, stellt die vorliegende Urtext-Ausgabe die von Reger intendierte Lesart wieder her. Enthalten sind sämtliche originalen dynamischen und agogischen Angaben (einschließlich der Fortführungsstriche, die in vielen modernen Ausgaben fehlen) sowie alle originalen Registrierungs- und Manualangaben. Frühere editorische Änderungen wurden zurückgenommen.
