Images of famine, debt, economic stagnation and decay in the South, coupled with an uneasy acknowledgement of the interdependence of military and economic security, demand an urgent re-evaluation of the security relations between the South and North. Security debates invariably give priority and prominence to the position of the West within an East/West equation. This work redresses this imbalance by highlighting the concerns and priorities of the developing states in the South/North dimensions at this time. Each of the six thematic parts comprises two contrasting treatments; one from the Third World perspective and the other from the viewpoint of the industrialised North.
