Growing sensitivity to issues of preparedness and community response has created a greater interest among academics and practitioners.The Asian Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, mudslides in Brazil, earthquakes in Haiti, Chile, Japan, Turkey, China, and other countries have garnered worldwide notice.
