From the breakthrough in 1979 until 1998, Essex won the county championship six times, the Benson & Hedges Cup twice, the National Westminster Bank Trophy twice and the John Player Sunday League three times. The famous names of Essex cricket are all documented and include: Charles Kortright, Percy Perrin, Johnny Douglas, Ken Farnes, Tom Pearce, Maurice Nichols, Peter Smith, Trevor Bailey, Brian Taylor, Keith Fletcher, Graham Gooch, Neil Foster, Mark Ilott, Ronnie Irani and James Foster.
