Wyndyke Furlong is the latest in a long series of archaeological investigations into the Iron Age landscape to the west of Abingdon. The site formed a northern continuation of Parrington's excavation at Ashville during the 1970s and revealed more of the large middle Iron Age settlement and early Roman field system.
Excavations at Wyndyke Furlong were undertaken inadvance of business park development on the site ofthe old Ashville Trading Estate, Abingdon. The workwas funded by the Standard Life Assurance Company and revealed the substantial remains of a middle Iron Age settlement and early Roman field-system and droveway.
