First launched in the United Kingdom in October 1965 to replace the Ford Thames, the Ford Transit soon drew the attention of campervan converters, including Dormobile, Auto Sleeper and the Swift Group. As this book shows, the Transit campervan and motorhome went from strength to strength, with converters appreciating the Transit’s ample dimensions and reliable mechanics. As the campervan market grew, Ford was keen to take advantage of the opportunities, though it faced stiff competition from the legendary VW Transporter as well as vans produced by other manufacturers, including Mitsubishi, Toyota, Renault, Peugeot and Mercedes.
