This book discusses the G.I. Joe universe from religious and theological perspectives.

Comprised of a wide-range of essays on G.I. Joe comics, toys, cartoons, and G.I. Joe as a brand, this edited volume reveals the G.I. Joe universe as a rich space for religious and theological inquiry. Across fourteen chapters, Peter Admirand and the collection''s contributors consider this iconic universe from an interdisciplinary and global perspective, with chapters discussing subjects including political theology, ethics, postcolonial theology, and moral geography. Part One (G.I. Joe in Comics – From the 1940s to Marvel, IDW, and The Energon Universe) explores the content of the G.I. Joe comics, whereas Part Two (G.I. Joe as a Brand, Toy, and Cartoon) considers the brand as a whole and its afterlives within pop culture more broadly. The collection concludes with an interview with Rob Wisdom, who re-ignited interest and awareness of the 1960s UK version of G.I. Joe, and an Afterword by Diana Davis, who sheds light on the G.I. Joe universe from her experience working as a creative and research consultant on the G.I. Joe Skybound ARAH issues and IDW’s ARAH.
