Gordon-Keeble Story

The Gordon-Keeble GT was originally conceived as a sports saloon that had comparable performance to an Aston Martin but at an affordable price. It was devised as a four-seater GT specification using readily available components. Based on the early designs of Peerless and Warwick cars, which were based on a TR3 engine and suspension, the Gordon-Keeble was styled by a young unknown Italian designer called Giorgetto Giugiario. John Gordon also approached General Motors, and the GM Vice-President was so impressed that he allowed one of GM’s newest engines to be fitted to the car. When the car was revealed at the Geneva Salon in March 1960, it was acclaimed by the world’s motoring press and soon went into production. In 1964, Autocar magazine extolled the Gordon as ‘a car which is way ahead of anything else in its class.’

As this book shows, however, despite the heady reception that the car received, the company soon ran into production problems as a result of strikes in the supply chain and production came to an end. However, the story of the Gordon-Keeble would continue with modifications and upgrades by enthusiasts which still make it a star at major motoring shows today.
