It should secure people’s well-being, but in an interconnected world shaped by climate change, pandemics, and economic instability, that cannot be done in isolation. A durable approach must account for the common good and the human consequences of American power. Yet much of the establishment remains committed to global military primacy at almost any cost—fueling endless dominance abroad while draining resources, neglecting domestic needs, and eroding democratic liberties at home. A healthy democracy is incompatible with an endless quest for global dominance.
