This book considers the work of the bone industry in a specific province of the Roman Empire. Through this work we obtain a global and general vision of this industry in a wide territory, Hispania. It shows the peculiarities found in each territory, as well as the local and regional influences and connections, and with the rest of the Empire.

La industria ósea en la Hispania romana considers, for the first time in detail, the work of the bone industry in a specific province of the Roman Empire. Until now, only the material deposited in a museum, or from a specific site, has been analysed in a particular way. It is hoped, therefore, that through this work we may obtain a global and general vision of this industry in a wide territory, Hispania. In this aspect, this book shows the peculiarities found in each territory, as well as the local and regional influences and connections, and with the rest of the Empire.

The first part provides an overview of the current state of research, both nationally and internationally. From here, we focus on the Hispanic workshops and their production, and develops a simple and open classification (so that new pieces can be incorporated), offering a detailed analysis of the different objects. Abundant images are provided in which the characteristics described and their small or large differences can be appreciated. The work is completed with a detailed description of each group and possible variants, location and areas where it is spread, chronology of the piece (when possible) or of the grouping by comparison, and, above all, an overall analysis with which it is intended to better understand the group to be treated. Special emphasis is placed on those pieces that are less frequent in the known sample collections.
