It also examines how workers have responded to their newly found environment. Alemán tackles these questions through analyses of labor compensation and industrial relations, as well as through detailed case studies of Chile and South Korea, two of the greatest economic and political success stories of the last three decades. The study reveals that where workers have benefited the most from democratization-in Western Europe-they have also become more militant.
