As well as providing an opportunity to examine some lesser-known works of Lacan, the book specifically seeks to explore how Lacan’s rhetoric and style changed for various audiences. Sometimes, Lacan used talks away from his seminar to summarize current developments from his teaching and state them more succinctly and aphoristically. At other times, he used the opportunity of talking to an unfamiliar audience to announce completely new ideas.
