Lanarkshire was once part of Scotland''s industrial heartland but, away from the grime and smoke, there was the more picturesque and rural Clyde Valley. Before car ownership became a routine necessity rather than a luxury, the citizens of Lanarkshire relied heavily on public transport. Lanarkshire Buses covers the halcyon days (1950s-1970s) of public transport and its providers, both large and small. While Central SMT may hae been state-owned omnibus overlords, famous independent operators such as Baxter''s, Hutchison''s, Irvine''s and Stoke''s all played their part.
