Der Landrechtsentwurf 1526 stellt ein bedeutendes Zeugnis der vom Humanismus geprägten frühneuzeitlichen Wissenschaft vom Privatrecht sowie vom Zivilprozessrecht dar. Er enthält einführend auch eine allgemeine Rechtslehre, etwa über Gerechtigkeit, Gewohnheitsrecht und das Gesetzgebungsrecht des Landesfürsten. Dennoch verweist er für Zweifelsfälle und Lückenfüllung nicht auf das Römisch-Gemeine Recht, sondern auf das heimische Gewohnheitsrecht. Auffallend ist auch das Bemühen um eine deutsche anstelle der lateinischen Rechtsterminologie. Obwohl die landesfürstliche Sanktion ausblieb, folgten weitere ähnliche Texte bis an die Schwelle der naturrechtlichen Kodifikationen im 18. Jahrhundert.
