Setting out from the Spanish-speaking Caribbean as a zone of linguistic exchange and diversification, this volume covers the perspectives of typologists, Africanists, Creolists and Romance linguists. The array of topics treated ranges from the reorganization of nominal categories and word-class systems to processes of grammaticalization and pragmaticalization or lexical reorganization as a window to socio-historical contexts. Since typological considerations serve as a framework for the microanalyses presented in this volume, possible converging zones stand out more clearly.
