Bilder machen seit jeher einen Unterschied. Kunst als Trägerstoff von Emotionen religiöser, kultischer oder kollektiver Art kommt eine wichtige Rolle bei der machtvollen Verwandlung von Welt zu. Vom Makel des Kultes oder des Götzendienstes behaftet zu sein oder durch die Inkarnation von Ideen und des Transzendenten erst das Leben und Kunstwerke zu ermöglichen – in dieser Spannung geht bis heute der Streit um die Macht der Bilder. Sie rufen den Schrecken und das Heilige hervor und bannen beides zugleich.
