The 10th birthday of the International Symposium on Metal Ions in Biology & Medicine should be a great event. The research of new metal compounds with a therapeutic application remains one of the most challenging and resource-intensive steps in inorganic drug discovery processes since the discovery of cisplatin. This 10th Symposium on Metal Ions in Biology and Medicine 2008 aims to present the latest scientific advances in biochemical, chemical and cell-based assays and data management along with examples of metal-ligand complex applications in drug development. The advancement of the knowledge of the role of metals in the cells reflects the emergence of metal-based drugs as a major drug discovery platform.
