This volume unites a collection of articles which illustrate the complexity of European cultural history in the Renaissance. New ways of thinking about music emerged during this period stimulated by the rediscovery of classical narratives on the sublime effects of music and by the profound religious upheavals which destroyed the unity of Western Christianity.
