Never the Same Again

When Daniel, a young law student from a modest rural background, and Eseza, a talented architect from a prominent political family, meet at their university in the capital of an African state, their mutual attraction is instantaneous. They want to marry; but first they must negotiate the complex question of their respective families' attitudes towards the match. And beneath that lies a still more intractable problem. What will be the consequences of Eseza's marrying a human rights activist? Her father is the Permanent Secretary for Finance, serving with honour, but in an administration which is both corrupt and authoritarian. Daniel and Eseza's marriage is no longer a private affair, it seems, but one which carries a whole series of political implications. It is a match whose celebration, in the teeth of furious opposition from the police, may even turn out to have revolutionary effects.
