Der Autor stellt anhand einer Analyse antiker Vorstellungen und Begriffe vom Lehrer, Schüler und Studenten Ausbildungswege, Bildungsideale und literarische Bildung in hellenistischer Zeit dar. Vor diesem weiten Hintergrund und mit Blick auf die Herkunft des Paulus wird anschließend Paulus’ Bildungsgang diskutiert. Analysen seiner Briefe (besonders 1 Kor 7 und 2 Kor 10 – 13) belegen seine hohe Textkompetenz, so dass eine literarische und rhetorische Bildung vorausgesetzt werden muss.
