Over the past half century and more the poet, translator, literary critic and occasional novelist Peter Robinson, born in Salford, Lancashire, in 1953, has established a reputation for the quality and distinctiveness of his writing, and of his work as a teacher and editor. In all these activities, he has been, and remains, focused on celebrating the necessity of poetry and the poetic imagination to an internationally vital culture. In this illustrated anthology, published to mark the opening of his archive in Special Collections at the University of Reading, contributions by fellow writers, colleagues, friends, and students shine a many-angled light on his writing life and work.
Katherine Meehan and Victoria Pickup, hosts of the Reading Poets’ Café, have brought together fifteen essays and an interview exploring aspects of Peter’s writing through this large and various archival collection. Into these have been woven poems and prose of recollection, alongside tributes to his lasting influence on students, readers, and other writers across four continents.
