This comprehensive collection of over 200 old photographs depicts Saltburn-by-the-Sea both as a thriving, innovative seaside town and as a delightful holiday resort. There is something for everyone between the pages of this book, which endeavours to capture the essence of Saltburn from times past to present day. Many of the photographs are very rare, as are the various extracts from 1906 car racing program. All were collected by the author from the albums of local people. THe photographs show people at work and at play - entertainment, sport and wartime are just some of the aspects of life covered. We wander by the sea, visit old Saltburn and commemorate Victorian Week - a celebration which has ceased to exist in its original form. In the nineteenth century Saltburn enjoyed a reputation as a fashionable spa resort, since this time it has seen many periods of depression and revival. Now, thanks to the enthusiasm of its residents, Saltburn is regaining some of its former glory.
