It proceeds from the theory of elasticity to analyze the three-dimensional response to mechanical loads with a focus on slender structural elements: bars or beams, and assemblages thereof, known as trusses, frames, or ossatures. Written with a rigorous perspective based on Saint-Venant’s theory, this book develops practical solutions to structures problems. It enables readers to classify structural members and identify the conditions under which a structural component can be idealized for the analysis of load-bearing capacity. This book covers the three-dimensional theory of beams of any cross-sectional shape or form, including flexible rods, rings, tubes, multi-cell sections, and thin-walled structures. This book is intended for upper-level undergraduate mechanical, aerospace, and civil engineering students taking courses in Structural Mechanics, Structural Analysis, and Mechanics of Aerospace Structures.
