The Microbiome and the Brain

The microbiome is at the forefront of many areas of scientific discoveries. Much about the human microbiome is applicable to medical specialties, but little of the emerging evidence has been translated into medical practice. Microorganisms residing within the gut form part of a complex, multidirectional communication network with the brain known as the microbiome-gut-brain axis. Microbes communicate with each other and their environment through neurologic signals which can influence neurologic conditions.
