The subjects covered range from accounts of battles and lists of ships to notices of promotions and marriages, courts martial and deaths, and biographies, poetry and letters. Each volume also contains engravings and charts relating to naval engagements and important harbours around the world. Volume 16 (1806) includes news of the unsuccessful British attack on Buenos Aires and a long biography of its leader, the influential but controversial Sir Home Popham. It also contains technical reports on shipbuilding and signalling, a list of almost 100 ships being built in British dockyards, coastal defence plans, and the codicil to Nelson's will regarding Lady Hamilton.
