It has been more than seventy-six years since the Partition of the Indian Subcontinent, but for those who lived through the phase, the memories remain as fresh as ever. Based on interviews of the ''Partition Generation'' living across borders (India and Pakistan), ''The Speaking Window: Tales from a Bloodied Timeline'' aims to bring together narratives from the generation that would soon be completely lost to time. With its beginnings in a Facebook page called ''Bolti Khidki: The Speaking Window'', now being conceptualized as a book, is an important work, based on the premise that people are humane in their natural state; that among the stories of bloodshed and rape that the Partition is most remembered for, there are also stories of religious tolerance and mutual respect. There are also numerous cases of people being given shelter amidst all the carnage that took place, by those belonging to various faiths. This book captures not just memories, but also the resilience of those who suffered and emerged stronger.
