In the early sixteenth century a Goan landowner, a Hindu privateer and a young English secret agent are assisting the Portuguese to overthrow the Muslim rulers of Goa and take possession of what will be known as Portuguese India for the next 451 years.
Renuka, the landowner’s daughter, and the Englishman fall deeply in love but their time together is limited as he must soon leave on another mission. But before going, the spy with green eyes makes a solemn promise to Renuka.
In subsequent years the history of Goa runs in parallel with the lives of four young women who bear an uncanny resemblance to Renuka; but none of their loves can replace the unforgettable spy with green eyes.
