Polly Pin lives in cushion in the haberdashery room. She feels sad as she has never been chosen. Finally, one day, she is picked and makes a new friend, Noah Needle. With great enthusiasm, thegirl begins arranging the pins into groups of red, yellow, green, and blue. When she finally picks up Polly, she places her beside Noah Needle. Feelingself-conscious, Polly apologises to Noah for looking different. But Noah warmlyintroduces himself and reassures her that being different is something to beproud of. He explains the important roles that both pins and needles play,helping Polly see her own worth for the very first time. Bythe end of the story, Polly discovers confidence, friendship, and a renewedsense of belonging. She learns that her uniqueness is something to treasure—andshe no longer doubts her place in the world.
