Many years of practical work in England and abroad, as doctor and teacher, had given the author insight into the difficulties incidental to the subject. The subject-matter of the book includes: Preparation for parenthood and the ante-natal care of the mother; the scientific feeding and care of the baby, with an informative chapter on foods, their qualities and uses; ailments and their treatment, including a special group of what are called school-diseases; the hygiene of the home, including facts about drainage, etc.; provisions which exist for alleviating the needs of the people. Today it can be read in its historical context. This book is a re-issue originally published in 1932. The language used is a reflection of its era and no offence is meant by the Publishers to any reader by this re-publication.
