Three bodies lie at the bottom of a swimming pool in a gated country estate near Buenos Aires. It's Thursday night at the magnificent Scaglia house. Behind the locked gates, shielded from the crime, poverty and filth of the people on the streets, the Scaglias and their friends hide lives of infidelity, alcoholism, and abusive marriage.

Three bodies lie at the bottom of a pool in a gated community near Buenos Aires. It''s Thursday night and, oblivious to their presence, Mrs Scaglia is strolling through the pool area gathering wine glasses left from her husband''s weekly gatherings with his neighbourhood friends. As well as a novel about people who go to unthinkable lengths to maintain appearances, Pineiro''s novel is also a psychological portrait of a desperate professional class that lives beyond its means that will resonate with credit crunch readers.
