Trans-Affirmative Therapy for Working with Transgender and Non-Binary People : A Queer-Informed Narrative Therapy Approach

Helping professionals across disciplines who are grappling with supporting non-binary and transgender clients, this book sets out a unique advocacy-based model that draws upon queer theory and narrative therapy. Developed over the last 10 years with over 600 trans clients, this innovative and non-pathologizing framework privileges the lived experiences of transgender and gender expansive people, whilst honoring the WPATH Standards of Care. The framework also incorporates Feedback Informed Treatment (FIT) as a trans-affirmative approach to measure therapeutic outcomes. Beyond proving a therapy framework, this book will enhance therapists' knowledge of gender identity and issues related to gender identity transition in its many forms. In addition, it offers practical tools for clinicians to become more culturally responsive with transgender and non-binary clients.
