Trends in Sustainable Production

It is now widely recognised that successful management of wastewater and wastes in the chemical and petrochemical industries is best achieved by embedding concepts of sustainability right through the production process. Such strategies are proving themselves in terms of industrial economics and environmental management. In consequence there is increasing research and development work into the technologies that enable sustainable production. To examine such developments nearly a hundred leading experts from 20 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas took part in the Trends in Sustainable Production conference, with over 40 platform papers and a large poster session. After full peer review 22 articles have been selected for these proceedings. In addition to a preface summarising the conference findings, there are papers on the following topics: toxicity/reuse characterization; reduction in process and product variability and enhanced quality control; innovative/integrated technology development; ecological approaches and residuals characterization. The proceedings comprise a highly valuable collection of some of the best new work in sustainable production and will be an essential reference for all scientists, process designers and managers active in the chemical industries.
