Up the Political Ladder : Career Paths in US Politics

The motivations for pursuing a career in electoral politics in the United States are examined in this fascinating insight into the development of political careers, from local elections through to the Presidency.

A theory of political ambition is developed in which political actors seek to increase their territorial jurisdiction and/or the size of their electoral constituency.
