Wasted : Counting the costs of global consumption

This text provides an analysis of the effects of the world's consumption patterns on "sustainable development". It argues that "sustainable development" is a normative goal for societies, and one that is bound up with everyday practices and patterns of behaviour.

Sustainable development cannot be achieved solely at the international level. Without the creation of more sustainable livelihoods, it will remain a utopian and elusive goal.
