The words, by Georgia Way, were written with children in mind, and are inspired by a translated Sanskrit text used in Chilcott''s 1998 piece Look to this day!: ''Look to this day! For today well lived, makes every yesterday a dream of happiness, every tomorrow a vision of hope''. Way''s poems translate the idea of the Sanskrit text into a striking and contemporary message, bringing the energy and joy of youth to the fore. Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow was written for the 2023 Crescent City Choral Festival and commissioned by the New Orleans Children''s Chorus and their Director, Cheryl Dupont.
