Instead of forcing all subjects into rigid, standardized procedures, it advocates constructing tests deliberately adapted to individuals and circumstances. Coverage explores emotional and cognitive factors—particularly attention—in shaping polygraph outcomes beyond simple truth–deception distinctions. It shows how neglecting these factors may impair accuracy and, conversely, how addressing them can enhance it.
